ICCD 2006: International Conference on Children and Divorce
An international multidisciplinary conference specifically for researchers interested in children’s lives and children’s wellbeing after separation or divorce.

University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, 24-27th July 2006
Deadline for submission of abstracts: January 9th 2006

The conference will be a unique opportunity to share, debate and integrate leading edge research, theory and methodology. Participants will be drawn from a wide range of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, family studies, demography, social work and socio-legal studies. The keynote speakers are Paul Amato, Gillian Douglas, Judy Dunn, Bob Emery, Janet Johnston, Valarie King, Michael Lamb, Jennifer McIntosh, Carol Smart and Liz Trinder.

ICCD 2006 is being held over four days in the beautiful cathedral city of Norwich in the UK.

CONFERENCE AIMS

Over the last decade researchers have made great advances in conceptualising and understanding children’s lives and children’s wellbeing after divorce or separation. However there have been few opportunities for researchers from different disciplines and different countries to meet together. The aim of the conference, therefore, is to bring together researchers from psychology, sociology, family studies, demography, social work, socio-legal studies and other disciplines who all share a common research interest in children and divorce.

The conference will be a unique opportunity for distinguished and emerging researchers to meet face-to-face to share work in progress and to shape the future research agenda. In order to maximise interaction and to retain focus we have restricted the number of available places to 120 participants. As numbers are limited priority will be given to participants (a) who contribute a paper, poster or workshop (see below for details) and (b) who are actively involved in research.

CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

The conference will be held over 4 days from Monday, 24th to Thursday, 27th July 2006. The first keynote presentation will be held in Norwich’s medieval cathedral on the Monday evening. For the next three days the morning sessions will be devoted to keynote speakers. Three linked papers will be presented by eminent scholars, and a chaired debate will follow.

The programme for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons includes four 90 minute concurrent sessions (two on Tuesday, one each on Wednesday and Thursday). During these sessions we intend to offer delegates the choice of attending one of about 4 or 5 different events which could include workshops, innovative sessions or paper symposia. There will also be two poster sessions, one on Tuesday and one on Thursday.

We welcome proposals for the following presentation formats:

• Poster presentations
• Papers
• Paper symposia
• Workshops

You are invited to submit an abstract about your work and to indicate in which format you would like to present. The reality is that up to one half of delegates will be able to present in a paper symposia or workshop and one half in a poster format. Whilst the main focus of the conference is empirical research on children and divorce, we will also consider proposals to present other relevant material, e.g. descriptions or analyses of law or policy.
